Welcome! I'm Nathan Bjoin, a musician/drummer currently a D.M.A. student at the University of Nebraska studying Jazz Studies as well as a Graduate Teaching Assistant.

I graduated from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami with a Masters Degree in Drum set Performance. As a masters student at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, I had the distinct pleasure of performing my first year with the Frost Sextet, the Frost School's premiere jazz combo under the direction of Charles Bergeron, as well as Jazz Vocal 1, Funk Fusion Ensemble, Bergeron Ensemble, and Seek the Source Ensemble. My incredible principal instructors at the Frost School of Music included Dafnis Prieto, Steve Rucker, David Chiverton, Harvel Nakundi, Marcus Strickland, and Charles Bergeron. I graduated from the University of North Texas in May, 2021 with an undergraduate degree in Jazz Studies, Music Performance, Applied Drum Set. I enjoyed performing with the 5 O’Clock Lab Band, 7 O’Clock Lab Band and 8 O’ Clock Lab Band, as well as in three guitar ensembles – the L5 ensemble as well as the 335 ensemble and the Super 400 ensemble; the 2 O’Clock Latin Steel Band, and I backed up one of the jazz choral groups, Avenue C. I participated in and performed with numerous small group combos.

While at UNT I had the opportunity to study with some amazing professors including Stockton Helbing, Quincy Davis, Mark Ford and Jose Aponte.

I also have experience in the marching arts, having performed with Dojo Percussion on the WGI Circuit and with the Colt Cadets Drum Corps in DCI. Principal instructors in this field have included Dana Murray and Alex Albertson. My vision and end goal of music is not only performing, but also teaching students the excitement of jazz, drum set, percussion and music. I have been so fortunate to have had amazing instructors all along this journey, and am passionate about giving back to others who, like me, have spent their time appreciating music and who want to continue their studies.
